CLTWest Mathematics Professional Development

October 4, 2003

CLTW mathematics teachers came to UNC's campus to participate in the course, Probablitity and Statistics in Middle Level Matematics Teaching that was lead by Dr. Jeff Farmer and Graduate Student, Andrew Neuman. They participated in NTCM activities, Length of Cats, and Batteries in the morning and participated in reflective conversations of their student work. Teachers brought samples of their students' work and together they analyzed them. In the afternoon, they discussed uses of graphics, and the insertion of mathematics equations within electronic documents. They also explored the Web based interactive activities, Illuminations, that NCTM developed for MarcoPolo. Teachers and UNC staff participated in teaching and learning conversations and activies to improve mathematics education.
