What is COSMOS?COSMOS is an Upward Bound Math and Science Program funded by a grant from the US Department of Education and administered by the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). We are a year-round program providing educational services and college preparatory assistance to fifty area high school students. Services are provided in two components: an academic year program and a summer residential program. During the summer component, students participate in a six-week summer residential program on the UNC campus, earning an additional unit of elective high school credit. During the academic year, the staff maintains contact with students by phone, e-mail or through monthly school visits. During the monthly visits, the students begin exploration of college options and complete some of the paperwork, such as resumes and applications. Academic progress is monitored in cooperation with school personnel. Students are expected to enroll in college preparatory curriculum at their home schools and complete a monthly program activity or assignment to remain in "good standing". One field trip is arranged each semester. We recruit ninth, tenth and exceptional eleventh graders who meet criteria established by the Department of Education and who have an interest in pursuing degrees and careers in math and science.
