The Frontiers of Science Institute is designed for high school students who have a strong interest in and aptitude for science. The activities are selected to give students a better understanding of new frontiers in the sciences and the nature of scientific investigation. Participants will explore some of the problems and limitations in science and be encouraged to continue with advanced scientific study and the pursuit of a science oriented careers.

The Institute is dedicated to achieving these goals:
- Increase students' understanding of important basic principles of science and what is happening on the leading edges of science.
- Help students recognize the interdependence and relationships among mathematics and such science areas as biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, space science, computer science, and engineering.
- Help students understand how mathematics and written and oral communications are used in interpreting and reporting scientific results.
- Enhance students' understanding of methods of scientific investigation and provide opportunities to apply those methods in their own studies.
- Design a personal pathway for each student to reach their personal potential.
- Provide opportunities for critical thinking based on personal observations and discovery, and increase students' understanding of the societal importance of current and past scientific discoveries and theories.
- Employ teaching methods that provide for students with special interests and aptitudes in science and that correlate science with other fields of human endeavor.
- Provide a better understanding of and appreciation for natural resources and diverse environments in relation to technology, science, and society.
- Imbue students with a passion for science and encourage advanced study and a science-based career in science.
