Mathematics Teaching Position - Summer 2007
Colorado Online Learning (COL) is an innovative learning organization committed to providing high-quality, standards-based, affordable online coursework. COL is looking for a Colorado-licensed, highly-qualified secondary Mathematics teacher who has a passion for using the latest technology to teach Colorado students. We provide Colorado standards-based course work to students throughout the state.
Ideal candidates should be interested in and skillful with the following responsibilities:
- Proficient with computer technology and willing to learn new technology skills for online teaching and learning;
- Provide a positive instructional climate that supports student learning and growth;
- Initiate and implement a variety of instructional approaches to help students learn to reason and communicate mathematically;
- Make high-quality summative and cumulative assessment opportunities available for students;
- Incorporate problem-based learning into online course work;
- Encourage peer-to-peer/peer-to-teacher interactions about mathematics in an online setting;
- Approach online instruction with an eye for new course development and enhancement of current courses;
- Contribute development time to courses as needed;

Educator Funds Resources
Proposals are due April 30. Grants up to $5,000 are available; the first round of 2007. There will be a second funding cycle in the Fall.
PLT is proud to announce it is expanding its GreenWorks! service-learning program. This year, $100,000 will be awarded to schools and youth organizations for environmental neighborhood improvement projects that involve youth with their community.
Since 1993, Project Learning Tree has distributed approximately $375,000 to fund over 700 grant projects in communities across the country. In 2007, PLT is making $100,000 available for "learning-by-doing" environmental projects that:
- partner PLT educators and their students with local businesses or community organizations
- combine academics with community service
- engage elementary through college-age students in active learning about the environment
- provide opportunities for student leadership.

Youth Programs Director - Opportunity

ICF seeks an experienced professional in the field of conservation learning, communications, and/or public outreach to lead growth of an established ICF department. The Conservation Education Department is preparing to embark on significant interpretive enhancements to our central campus, an expanded national outreach program, and a new involvement in international education programming. The successful candidate will lead a small, active group of staff and volunteers and work closely with peer program directors and the senior management to ensure creativity and consistent quality in educational and informational programming. Some international travel is expected.
The successful candidate will have:
- A degree in social sciences, education, communications, and/or marketing; candidates with biology/zoology/ecology related backgrounds and/or significant cultural, community, and/or education experience may also qualify
- Skills to evaluate the education program and ensure program activities produce conservation outcomes and further ICF's mission
- Proven record of organizing, inspiring, and mentoring an engaged professional staff, and the ability to work across multiple disciplines
- Skills with collaborative, team building approaches
Preference will be given to individuals with:
- Knowledge of information technologies, communications and marketing approaches relevant to sharing scientific information and engaging multiple public audiences
- Proven experience working in diverse international and or cultural environments

Funding available for PLT workshops and more for teachers in at-risk communities!
The Colorado State Forest Service would like to help teachers and students understand healthy forests and the role of fire and insects in ecosystems. Until August, 2007, PreK-12 th grade Project Learning Tree workshops are free! Participants receive activity guides, service learning funding opportunities, and supplemental materials and resources. Recertification credit available
And in communities that have or are working on CWPPs (Community Wildfire Protection Plans), schools may apply for an additional stipend to purchase equipment and supplies that help students investigate their environment if at least half of the teachers have been trained in Project Learning Tree. University of Maryland Offers Online Masters Program for High School Science Teachers The Master of Life Sciences is an online, content-based masters program for high school science teachers. Presented by the NSTA Institute in partnership with the Office of Continuing and Extended Education (OCEE) at the University of Maryland , the program provides in-depth knowledge of current research areas in the biological, biochemical, and biomedical sciences. Taught by full-time faculty of the College of Life Sciences , the Master of Life Sciences program features asynchronous lessons, Web-based chat rooms, threaded discussions, and full technical support. Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Systems for Educators
Many educators over the years have expressed interest in an online method of learning about Geographic Information Systems.The following announcement concerns a new course. ** These courses start at the beginning of September 2005.
Eastern Michigan University offers a fully online graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for educators. The certificate addresses classroom concerns and implementation of GIS.
Number of Credits:
The graduate certificate requires 15 credit hours of GIS courses, all of which are offered online. Each of the first four courses will be 7.5 weeks in duration allowing for two complete cycles of courses in the fall semester (Sept.-Dec.) and two in the winter semester (January- April). The fifth course (School GIS Projects) is offered during the summer and can either be completed online or by attending one of our project-based summer institutes on EMU's main campus.
Program of Study
The program requires the following 15 credit hours for completion:
GEOG 520 GIS Introduction for Educators (3)
GEOG 522 Internet GIS Resources for Educators (3)
GEOG 524 GIS as an Instructional Tool in Classrooms (3)
GEOG 667 School GIS Projects (3)
ESSC 669/GEO 669 GIS Lesson Plan Development (3)
Admission includes:
1. Comply with the Graduate School's admission requirements.
2. Hold a 2.75 undergraduate GPA or 3.0 in the last half of the undergraduate work or 3.3 GPA in 12 hours or more of work at the graduate level or a minimum 50th percentile on the GRE writing. International students must have a minimum score of 550 on the TOEFL.
Special GIS Technical Requirements
