        The MAST Institute, within the College of Natural and Health Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado, is committed to equitable and systemic reform in the teaching and learning of science, mathematics and technology education. The Mathematics and Science Teaching (MAST) Institute, established in 1987 provides leadership and coordination for projects and programs to improve mathematics and science education, within the University, the State and nationally.

  • The MAST Institute is pleased to announce their 2008 Colorado Science and Engineering Fair winners : Junior Division, Alexandria Farnsworth of Paonia Jr/Sr High School, Paonia, CO for her project, Energy with a spin; Senior Division, Jordan Lestina of Dove Creek High School, Dove Creek, CO for his project, Biodiesel from sunflower oil: An analysis of soil fertility and sunflower oil content. Each student received a $50 award, a certificate from the Frontiers of Science Institute, and UNC's Viewbook.
  • UNC is providing a MA in Natural Science for practicing K-12 science teachers and MA in Middle Level Mathematics for middle school teachers. Summer 2008 science courses: Principles and Teaching of Cell Biology, K12 Science Inquiry, Green Chemistry, Lab, Field, and Studio Safety.   • The MAST Institute is coordinating the eMentoring for Student Success (eMSS) program for Colorado. This program provides Colorado's new secondary science teachers with a secondary science mentor. New science teachers are now being recruited. This program is developed from a partnership with the National Science Teachers Association, University of California - Santa Cruz' New Teacher Center, and Montana State University.
