Jo O'Brien
Assistant Commissioner for the Learning and Results
Colorado Department of Education
The Assistant to the Commissioner for the Office of Learning and Results position is responsible for administrating three state assessment instruments; CSAP, ACT and the NAEP. Jo O'Brien formerly worked for the Kentucky Department of Education's School Improvement Office, The Chicago Tribune and PBS (the Public Broadcasting Service). Her work in all of the agencies focused on the trends behind successful schools. Ms.O'Brien has worked for over 20 years in the identification and dissemination of education policies which yield longer term academic benefits.
As a result of CSAP, ACT, and NAEP long term results-based data, Jo discussed seven year student mathematics trends in Colorado schools and where the strengths and weaknesses in both instruction and expectations occur. Additionally, Ms. O'Brien introduced the early and formative information about student performance in Science content.
