About the NUE Project

Goals of the Project

  • Enhance undergraduate's ability to visualize and understand nanoscale science concepts while giving them hands-on experiences related to nanotechnology
  • Prepare undergraduates to enter an educated workforce fully prepared for careers in nanoscale science or to enter graduate studies in nanoscale science
  • Educating future K-12 teachers about nanoscale science and the societal issues arising from this emerging technology while developing their teaching skills
  • Allow students to have significant interdisciplinary peer interactions, nurturing an appreciation in students for the cross disciplinary nature of nanotechnology.

Summary of Project to Date

  • Four of the modules have been completed satisfactorily
  • Implementation of the modules into courses has begun
  • The Nanotechnology Learning Community has been offered twice (Fall 05 and Fall 06)
  • Five summer internships have been used with one remaining for this coming summer
