UNC's NUE: DUNES Module

SAMs of Silanes on Mica Module

  • Designed for a second semester general chemistry course
  • May be used as an intermolecular forces lab experiment or as an introduction to materials science or nanotechnology
  • Exposes students to the chemistry of silanes and SAMs
  • Provides hands-on experience with a contact angle instrument and an AFM over two laboratory sessions. During the first session, students prepare their samples for imaging and the second session allows for measuring contact angles and imaging samples.
