Dear Science Teachers,
The MAST Institute at UNC is recruiting experienced (5+ years) and new (1st-3rd year) middle and high school science teachers to participate in an innovative, online mentoring: e-Mentoring for Student Success (eMSS). The eMSS program is a partnership between the National Science Teachers Association, the New Teacher Center at the University of California Santa Cruz, and Montana State University.
eMSS is one of the fastest growing online mentoring programs, developed to empower the next generation of science teachers by providing content-focused mentoring through a national, online technology network. Through eMSS, new and veteran teachers - as well as working scientists - collaborate in an interactive community to facilitate the exchange of information, ideas, and experiences to advance high-quality science instruction for all students.
Each new teacher is matched with a mentor from Colorado, in his/her content area and grade level. Together eMSS partners work through a facilitated online curriculum that focuses on science content and pedagogy that applies to the science teachers' classroom. Discussion areas are provided for earth, space, life, and physical science and several modules are designed to explore different aspects of science teaching between mentors and mentees. The online nature of the e-Mentoring program allows science teachers anytime, anywhere, extended access to support.
Over the past year approximately 30 Colorado teachers have participated in eMSS during its pilot phase. The MAST Institute and eMSS encourage and welcome you to consider joining this outstanding program. Additional information about the eMSS 2007-8 program can be found at http://emss.nsta.org <https://owa.unco.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://emss.nsta.org/> , including a description of complete mentor and mentee benefits, timeline, requirements, and expectations.
The deadline for mentor teachers to apply is May 15, 2007.
Applications for new teachers are also currently open and will run through September 30, 2007. Please apply today if you are interested as there are a limited number of slots available for the program.
