Saturday, May 12, 9:30-1:30, Field trip "in the footsteps [horse steps?] of Arthur Lakes", A Drive up Golden Gate Canyon; Explore Golden Gate Canyon as it was in 1880; led by Beth Simmons; sponsored by Friends of Dinosaur Ridge. Meeting Place: Dinosaur Ridge Visitor's Center. Bring picnic lunch. Admission: Free. Travel: Vanosaurus limitation to 14. This (and some following listed trips) are a continuation of a series of programs and field trips keyed to the 130th anniversary of the dinosaur discoveries made by Arthur Lakes in 1877.

Meeting Place: Dinosaur Ridge Visitor's Center. "Explore Green Mountain along the route that Arthur Lakes took his students."; an easy-paced hike to the top, as well as a "ramble" along some little-used paths near its base, to see many remarkable geological curiosities.
Admission: Free. Travel: Vanosaurus, limited to 14; extra drivers may caravan behind.
Saturday, June 2, 10:30-2:30 p.m., Dinosaur Discovery Days (free public tour days with volunteer guides) will be held the first Saturday of each month at Dinosaur Ridge: June 2, July 7, Aug. 4, Sep. 1, Oct. 6. For more info see www.dinoridge.org. The June 2 date will include a walk led by T Caneer on the "Triceratops Trail" in Golden, and the October 6 date will feature "Rocks and Roles, Women on the Ridge", a special field day for Girl Scouts.
also Saturday, June 2, a Front Range structural geology field trip is being sponsored by DREGS (Denver Region Exploration Geologists Society) and the USGS, "Brittle Structures, Kinematics, and Hydrothermal Alteration in the Central Colorado Rocky Mountain Front Range", led by Jonathan Caine (USGS) and John Dreier (DREGS). The trip will look at the structural history of the Front Range, localization of the metal-bearing hydrothermal systems in the Colorado Mineral Belt, and the effects of brittle structures on ground water. June 8-10, at the Western Museum of Mining & Industry, Colorado Springs, will be the 4th Annual Model Engineering & Historic Power Show. Saturday, June 23, 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Hike to historic quarries at Morrison, led by Dr. Adrian Hunt.
Meeting Place: Dinosaur Ridge Visitor's Center. "Participants will hike to the historic dinosaur quarries that Lakes opened during 1877.

June 23-24, Pikes Peak Gem & Mineral Show, sponsored by the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society; at the Phil Long Expo Center, 1515 Auto Mall Loop, Colorado Springs (I-25 Exit 150, North Academy Blvd.) 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday. A very nice gem and mineral show; we'll have a USGS booth here, so come say hello!
