CLASSESUNC Student Opportunity to Learn Technology Students, the Technology Literacy Center at UNC is offering a FREE orientation held at your convenience for you to explore our online resources through MAST Moodle (mast.unco.edu/moodle)
During the orientation you will learn how to access online modules for Word Excel, PowerPoint, and Advanced Search among other topics. These online modules allow you to pace yourself and control your learning time.
Have you ever wanted to know about the Internet but were afraid you'd be taking a class with a group of advanced users? Join us! Basic Internet for beginners gently gets your feet wet in language and fundamentals so that you can surf the big wave of the WWW in no time at all. Class size is limited.
In this very popular WOW class you will use Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator to explore the WWW. Develop terminology and discuss what it takes to get on the Internet. Learn to browse, enter Web addresses, and effectively use search engines to perform keyword and phrase searches. Learn how to find and save the information you want. This class can have any focus, Genealogy, Arts and Entertainment, Shopping, for EMTs and Police, for Realtors, for health care providers, or any other interested group. The Instructors are not experts in these focus areas. They do provide participants with ideas on how to find useful information as well as how to navigate the Web effectively. Call and we will discuss your options. 3 days on request on campus (Greeley) or at your school, and after class meetings, educators return to their home to complete online assignments by xxx This hands-on course provides practicing K12 teachers an opportunity to build skills and develop classroom uses of the following technologies: World Wide Web, Microsoft Office, Inspiration (concept mapping software), MarcoPolo (Web content integration activities - www.marcopolo-education.org), Web page design and development, Wireless networks, digital cameras, digital microscopes, handheld computers such as the Palm system, SMARTBoards, and scanners. Course staff and teachers will align activities to the content and technology standards, and insure that assessment methods are developed to assess classroom student performance.

Discuss and establish criteria for evaluating software before major purchasing. Group will create a form to gather input from teaching staff. Individuals will evaluate various pieces of software that they may or may not decide to purchase for their school. Legal and Ethical Issues for Educators (1 hour)
Use Inspiration application to explore strategies for using computers to enhance teaching and learning through the process of electronic concept mapping.
Explore learning to use WORD functions for editing to track suggestions of multiple editors.
Utilize Excel to create graphical representations of data (i.e, bar graphics, scatter plots, etc.)

Explore the history of wireless technology and visit sites that offer possible wireless solutions to their networking problems. Test the limits of the WOW wireless LAN and discuss problems and solutions associated with those limits. Discuss the pros and cons of installing and operating wired vs. wireless LANs, and locate resources and funds to help build a wireless LAN. This class is aimed primarily at technical coordinators within educational settings. Class size is limited and computers may be shared with another individual.

Business uses of the WWW are discussed. Topics range from figuring out if the Internet is right for you to creating, marketing, and maintaining an online presence. Whether it is for simply gathering information on competition or expanding profit potential, participants learn and share ideas regarding how to effectively use the Internet for business purposes. Develop a basic Web page with Netscape Composer. The class will cover inserting text, images, tables, horizontal rules, and color. Participants will discuss how to get your Web page published, submitted to search engines, and be given references to help you develop the Web site of your dreams. Prerequisite: Participants should have taken Introduction to the Internet or be familiar with the Internet. Taking the Advanced Searching class is also helpful, but not required. Develop a Web site using Dreamweaver 3/4. Instruction will cover becoming familiar with the Objects palette and the Properties Inspector, inserting text, links (i.e., Absolute, Relative, Image, Mailto, Named Anchor) and graphics (i.e. GIF, JPG, and PNG, linked and background images, alternative text). Furthermore, participants will create Rollover Buttons, a Navigation Bar with Rollovers and Links, an Image Map, and add Audio and Video. Participants will discuss how to get their Web site published and submitted to search engines, and will be given design tips to help them develop the Web site of their dreams. Prerequisite: Participants should have taken Introduction to the Internet or be familiar with the Internet. Taking the Advanced Searching class is also helpful, but not required.
